Placement and use
Use American sycamore as the main canopy tree in a large lawn, park-like planting, broad property edge, or other open setting. Place it well away from buildings, overhead utilities, drives, patios, and small planting beds so its mature crown does not overwhelm circulation or nearby plants. Keep a clear, mowable or mulched zone beneath and around the tree for leaf, twig, bark, and fruit cleanup. Its large canopy will eventually cast substantial shade across adjacent ground.[1][2]
