Asiatic Jasmine

Place Asiatic Jasmine in partial sun where a low, connected ground layer will simplify the composition of a bed. It works well under open-canopied trees and on banks, where its mat-forming habit can cover exposed soil without adding height to the planting. Keep the planting set back from paths and stepping areas so the foliage layer has room to develop without narrowing circulation. It can also be used in broad masses as an alternative to a conventional lawn-like surface.^[1][2]

Set plants 18 inches apart, center to center, for a planting that closes into a continuous cover. Each plant can spread about 3 feet wide at maturity, so neighboring plants will overlap rather than remain as separate clumps. Use that overlap deliberately in large beds and on slopes, but leave a clean edge beside paths, patios, and low border plants. A narrow strip may need regular trimming to preserve its intended line.

Give this groundcover partial sun and moderate water, especially while the planting is establishing across its allotted area. Arrange it where water can reach the full width of the mat rather than only the first row along a path or foundation. Well-drained soil helps keep the planting practical in a low, dense layer; avoid sites that collect standing water after rain.^[1]

The evergreen foliage keeps the ground plane occupied through the year, so leave its full footprint open even when nearby perennials are dormant. Small flowers arrive from late spring into early summer, adding a brief seasonal detail without changing the plant’s low, spreading role in the layout.
