Placement and use
Use bougainvillea to cover a sunny fence, trellis, wall-adjacent frame, or other sturdy vertical feature. Its scrambling stems do not attach themselves, so tie and guide new growth across the support to create coverage where it is wanted. Set the planting position beside, rather than directly on, a path or entry; leave a clear working side for training, pruning, and keeping thorny growth out of circulation space.[1][2]
