Placement and use
Place Rhododendron catawbiense in a partially shaded bed or woodland edge where its rounded, multi-stemmed form can read as a large background or mid-border shrub. It suits small groups, a loose screen, or a single focal plant beside a shaded path, but leave enough setback that mature branches do not press into circulation. Give it protection from harsh afternoon sun and drying wind; a sheltered north- or east-facing position can make planning easier.[1][2]
