Creeping Wire Vine

Give this groundcover a defined horizontal zone instead of scattering single plants through a large bed. It works especially well in narrow planting strips beside paving, in the spaces between pavers, and as a trailing filler at the rim of containers. Keep its planting area within easy reach from a path or patio so spreading stems can be guided back from adjacent plants, edging lines, and circulation surfaces. Its 3-inch height makes it best placed in front of taller perennials rather than behind them.

Set plants 18 inches apart, center to center, for a continuous planting that can knit into a low mat. Each plant may spread about 2 feet wide at maturity, so allow the outer edge to overlap lightly into its intended zone rather than placing it tight against a path, wall, or a larger neighbor. In a small bed, reserve a broad foreground band rather than a thin line; the plant’s width is its main visual presence.

Place Creeping Wire Vine in full sun and plan for moderate watering. In containers, keep it where regular irrigation is practical, particularly when it shares the pot with plants that need similar moisture. In ground-level paving gaps or bed edges, group plants within the same watered area instead of isolating them in dry, hard-to-reach pockets.

This plant occupies its space as a perennial in USDA Zones 7 through 10. Design the planting as a lasting low layer, leaving room around it for seasonal additions that can sit above or behind the mat without needing the same ground-level footprint. Its modest height keeps sightlines open at bed fronts and along walkways.
