Placement and use
Give Crown of Thorns a prominent position at the front or middle of a sunny dry-style bed, with lower plants kept clear of its base. Its rounded shrub form can anchor the end of a border, mark a bed corner, or stand alone in a container where all sides remain accessible. In areas outside Zones 10 to 11, plan it as a movable container plant so it can occupy the sunny outdoor layout during warm weather and shift under cover when cold arrives. Keep it back from narrow walks, gates, steps, and frequent maintenance lanes; thorny stems make close-contact locations impractical.[1][2]
