Placement and use
Use Douglas Fir as a long-term specimen, screen, or windbreak where its height will not overtake nearby garden rooms. Put it well back from patios, driveways, utility corridors, and rooflines, and keep the area beneath its future canopy out of intensive sun-garden plans. A row can form an evergreen boundary, but leave enough room to walk, mow, and inspect both sides of the planting as the trees expand.
