Tagetes patula
French marigold is a compact annual that brings a low, defined layer to sunny planting plans. At about 1 foot tall and wide, it suits the front of ornamental beds, the perimeter of vegetable beds, and containers where its rounded footprint can be repeated in a clear rhythm. Its flowering season runs from early summer into fall, giving a planted edge a long period of occupancy without adding height that obscures neighboring crops or flowers.

In containers, place it near the outer rim or as a low middle layer beneath taller plants, leaving enough open surface for watering.
