Gomphrena globosa
Gomphrena brings clover-like blooms to the sunny garden from summer into fall. At about 18 inches tall, it makes a compact flowering layer rather than a tall backdrop, so it can carry color through the front or middle of a bed without blocking longer views. Its pollinator-friendly flowers also suit a planting designed to stay active and colorful in hot weather.

Treat its footprint as a seasonal layer in the plan: install it after frost risk has passed, then leave access around the drift for cutting or removal at season’s end.
