Placement and use
Use Ostrich Fern where the soil stays reliably moist: beside a shaded path, at the edge of a damp bed, or beneath open-canopied trees. Set the planting far enough from narrow walkways that mature fronds do not lean into circulation space. A grouped planting can fill a broad, shaded backdrop and soften the transition between shrubs, structures, and lower perennial layers. Avoid treating it as a tightly contained border plant; its colony-forming habit needs room to develop.
