Placement and use
Place Star Magnolia as a single accent beside a patio, at the edge of a lawn, or within a broad shrub border where its early flowers are not crowded by taller evergreens. A sheltered position away from strong winds helps protect the display and makes the tree more comfortable near seating areas. Avoid a warm, south-facing pocket beside a heat-reflecting wall, where buds may open too early. Keep the base outside tight foundation beds so there is room to mulch, water, and prune after flowering if needed.[1]
