Limonium sinuatum
Statice, Limonium sinuatum, is a compact annual flower that brings papery blooms in blue, pink, and white from early summer into fall. At roughly 18 inches tall, it reads as a light, upright layer rather than a broad mass. Use it where its flowers can rise above low edging plants without blocking views across the bed, and where stems remain easy to reach for fresh or everlasting bouquets.
Set statice into the sunny front or middle of a border, a cutting bed, or a container grouping. Its slender flowering stems suit small pockets between sturdier plants, but place it near a bed edge or path if cutting flowers is part of the plan. Keep the planting out of persistently damp areas and avoid enclosing it tightly among dense foliage, so air can move around the crowns.[1]
Allow about 1 foot of mature width per plant, then set plants 1 foot apart, center to center, for a continuous but compact planting. In a border, repeat small groups rather than making a deep block; the 18-inch height keeps the display within reach from a path. Leave a clear approach along at least one side when flowers will be cut regularly.
Give statice full sun and a fast-draining planting position, especially in sandy or light soil. Its low-water habit fits dry bed zones better than irrigation-heavy annual displays. Water enough to establish new plants, then avoid keeping the root zone wet; drainage and open spacing help prevent crown and root problems.[1]
This annual occupies its space from early summer through fall, with a long run of flowers for cutting and dried arrangements. Reserve the same area for a warm-season display rather than relying on it for early-spring presence. Because the flowering stems are the feature, position it where the vertical bloom layer can show above neighboring low foliage.
High heat and humidity can make statice less reliable, so avoid the most enclosed, humid corner of the garden. Do not overwater or use a site with slow-draining soil. The plant produces one extended bloom, so plan its placement for the full flowering period rather than expecting a separate flush after deadheading.[1]
