Placement and use
Give artichoke an open position at the back or outer edge of a bed, where its height will not crowd shorter crops or narrow circulation. It works especially well as an anchor at a bed corner or beside a wide path, with its substantial foliage facing open ground instead of a fence or doorway. Keep a clear side for reaching the developing buds, and reserve nearby planting space for asparagus, cabbage, lettuce, or tarragon if those crops are part of the plan.
