Placement and use
Set asparagus along the north side of a vegetable garden, against a fence line, or in its own permanent strip so its roughly 5-foot summer growth does not shade shorter crops. Keep the bed close enough to a path for frequent spring picking and later-season weeding, but out of the way of annual-bed digging. A long, straight row or a compact block with a dedicated access edge makes the planting easier to maintain over many seasons.[1][2][3]
