Placement and use
Give bell peppers a full-sun position with open access from a path or bed edge; regular picking is easier when plants are not buried behind sprawling crops. Use them as a repeating upright row in a rectangular bed, or as individual anchors among lower vegetables. Basil, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, garlic, and lettuce can be included elsewhere in the same plan. Keep fennel, cabbage, and kale in separate bed groupings. In containers, reserve a generously sized pot and a location that will not be shaded as nearby summer crops gain height.
