Placement and use
Set Bottle Gourd at the north edge of a bed or against a fence, arch, or sturdy trellis so its height does not shade lower crops. Reserve a clear approach from a path or bed edge for tying in growth, checking flowers, and reaching fruit. A raised support keeps developing gourds off the ground and gives the vine a defined vertical territory; allow the plant to climb rather than spill across circulation space. Use a structure built for a heavy, vigorous vine, not a light decorative trellis.[1]
