Placement and use
Use Ajuga reptans beneath shrubs, along the shaded side of a border, or across a bank where its low mat can knit the planting together. It can also cover difficult lawn alternatives in cool, shaded ground. Keep it out of route lines: this is a planting to look across or tend from an edge, not a surface intended for regular foot traffic. Set a bed edge, path, or other maintainable boundary wherever you need its spread to stop.[1][2]
