Placement and use
Use butterfly bush in a sunny border, cottage-style planting, or at the outer edge of a pollinator-focused bed rather than as a tight foundation shrub. Its open, arching growth needs visual and physical breathing room, especially beside walks, gates, and seating areas. Keep the main framework set back from paths so flowering stems can lean outward without narrowing circulation, and leave a clear approach for annual pruning and spent-flower removal.[1][2]
