Placement and use
Set butternut squash at the outside of the vegetable garden and point its vines toward open ground, a mulch lane, or the base of a sturdy trellis. This keeps the main bed more reachable while giving the crop a clear run. Corn, beans, peas, radishes, and borage can be included nearby; keep potatoes and fennel in separate parts of the plan. Leave a direct approach from a path so fruit can be checked and harvested without stepping into the vine zone.
