Placement and use
Give Chinese chestnut an open site away from low beds, patios, play areas, and routes that need to stay clear through fall. Use it as a broad lawn or orchard tree, with room to approach the trunk and gather fallen burs without working beneath closely planted shrubs. Plan for at least two compatible trees or seedling trees so cross-pollination can support nut production; place the pollination partners within the same open growing area rather than isolating one tree across the property.[1][2]
