Christmas Palm is a compact-looking tropical palm that develops into a 20-foot vertical accent with an 8-foot mature spread. Its slender trunk and concentrated canopy make it useful where a broad shade tree would overwhelm the plan. Bright red winter fruit gives the plant a strong seasonal presence, so reserve a position where it can be seen from living areas, an entry, or a frequently used path.

Use this palm as a single upright focal point in a small frost-free yard, or place it at the back of a tropical border where its height rises above lower planting. Keep the canopy clear of low roofs, overhead structures, and tight path edges as it matures. A grouped planting can read as a fuller vertical feature, but each trunk still needs its own rooting and canopy room rather than being compressed into a narrow bed.[1][2]

Give this palm a full-sun position and moderate water. Build the layout around a bed that can be irrigated without routinely soaking adjacent drought-oriented plantings. A dedicated planting pocket beside a lawn, patio border, or other regularly watered area makes its moisture needs easier to manage while preserving an open, sunny canopy position.
Cream-colored summer flowers are followed by green fruit that colors red from late fall into winter. Leave visual room beneath and around the crown for that seasonal display rather than burying the trunk in tall companion plants. The palm remains evergreen, so its upright form continues to occupy the same planning space year-round.[1][2]
Plan it only for reliably frost-free conditions within USDA Zones 10 to 11. This palm is highly sensitive to frost and freezing temperatures, making exposed cold pockets and winter-chilled entry courts poor choices. It is also susceptible to lethal yellowing, so avoid making a single specimen the only structural feature in a prominent palm-focused planting.[1][2]
