Placement and use
Use columbine in a woodland-edge border, beneath the open canopy of trees, or along a partly shaded path where its spring flowers can be seen at close range. Keep it set back from the path edge rather than using it as a tight border, leaving room for its leafy mound and for seedlings that may appear nearby. Its 2-foot height makes it useful behind low groundcovers or spring bulbs and in front of later-rising perennials.[1][2]
