Placement and use
Use coontie palm near the front or middle of a shrub border, where its 3-foot height will not hide lower edging plants or spill into a path. It can anchor foundation beds and broad mass plantings, with taller shrubs or small trees set behind it to preserve light and reach-in access. Leave a clear maintenance strip between the planting and walls, steps, or walkways so the stiff fronds remain contained within the bed.[1]
