Placement and use
Place cucumbers on the north side of a bed, or along a fence or dedicated trellis, so their height does not cast unnecessary shade over lower vegetables. Set the support in place before planting, and make it sturdy enough for mature vines and fruit. Training vines upward concentrates the crop at the bed edge, keeps the planting area easier to reach, and leaves clearer circulation beside the row for watering and picking.[1]
