Placement and use
Place dahlias in an open, sunny bed with a path or open edge close enough for cutting, deadheading, watering, and seasonal cleanup. Reserve a clear vertical lane for stems and blooms rather than tucking plants beneath shrubs or into the shade cast by fences. In a mixed border, set them behind low edging and in front of taller background planting. Group several plants where their late-season display can carry the bed after earlier flowers fade.
