Placement and use
Place edamame in an open, full-sun part of the vegetable garden where its 2½-foot canopy will not shade shorter crops. A middle or back position in a bed works well, while a path-side edge should be reserved only if there is enough room to reach through the foliage for picking. It can be grouped near sweet corn, summer squash, cucumber, carrots, lettuce, or radishes. Keep a separate bed section for onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, and fennel rather than interplanting them in the same block.
