Placement and use
Use English walnut as a specimen or as the anchor of a large edible landscape, positioned well beyond patios, vegetable beds, and circulation routes that need dependable sun. Its mature canopy creates a broad overhead zone, so place it on the side of the property where expanding shade will not overtake smaller fruit trees or sunny planting areas. Allow clear access around the trunk for watering, cleanup, and eventual harvest work; do not make the tree the center of a tightly planted island bed.[1][2]
