Placement and use
Place forsythia behind smaller shrubs and perennials, where its fountain-like outline can rise without blocking circulation. It suits informal borders, hedges, banks, and slopes; use a repeating row when a loose seasonal screen is more useful than a clipped edge. Keep the planting line away from walls, fences, and tight corners so long branches have room to arch outward and so every plant can be reached for pruning after bloom.[1][2]
