Placement and use
Use grapefruit as a single, full-scale fruit-tree anchor in an open lawn, edible landscape, or generous perimeter planting. Set it behind lower plantings and well away from vegetable beds that need uninterrupted sun; a mature canopy can cast substantial shade across a small garden. Keep the planting area accessible from more than one side for watering, seasonal harvest, and light cleanup, but do not force the tree into a narrow side yard or tight corner.
