Placement and use
Place hostas in the sheltered interior or front-to-middle of a full-shade border, where their 2-foot height will not hide smaller edging plants. They work well beneath trees, but give each clump enough open soil and a practical watering route; tree-rooted shade can demand extra attention during dry periods. Use repeated groups along a shaded bed or beside a path, while keeping the foliage edge clear of the walking line as the clumps fill out.[1]
