Placement and use
Place Symphyotrichum novae-angliae toward the back or middle of a deep sunny border, where its height will not hide shorter plants or narrow a path. Use repeated clumps to create a broad fall display, leaving an access edge for cutting back and checking stems. It also suits a meadow-style area, rain-garden planting, or a loose drift beside other plants that will not be crowded by its mature canopy.[1][2]
