Hydrangea paniculata
Panicle hydrangea is a long-lived shrub that brings large, conical white flower clusters from midsummer into early fall, with blooms aging pink. At about 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide, it reads as a substantial backdrop rather than a filler shrub. Its full-sun tolerance and cold hardiness across USDA Zones 3 through 8 make it useful where a planting needs reliable height and late-season flower presence.

Use Panicle Hydrangea at the rear or outer edge of a deep bed, where its broad, upright mass can frame a seating area, soften a fence line, or anchor a mixed shrub border. Place lower perennials and smaller shrubs in front, leaving an open working side for watering, pruning, and removing fallen flower heads if desired.
