Placement and use
Place potatoes in a full-sun bed where the soil can be mounded without spilling onto a path or crowding neighboring crops. A long row or broad strip works well when one side remains reachable for hoeing, hilling, watering, and harvest. Keep the hill zone clear of permanent edging and place tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, and fennel elsewhere in the plan. Beans, sweet corn, horseradish, onions, and cabbage can be assigned nearby where their own space allows.
