Placement and use
Set runner beans along the north edge of a sunny bed, against a fence, or on a dedicated trellis so their 10-foot vines do not cast shade across shorter crops. Install a tall, sturdy support before planting; the vines climb by twining and need the framework from the start. A row of plants can make a seasonal living wall, but keep the support far enough from paths that foliage and developing pods remain reachable from at least one side.[1][2][3]
