Sour cherry is a self-fertile fruit tree that brings a compact orchard-scale presence to gardens in USDA Zones 4 through 8. It reaches about 15 feet tall and 15 feet wide, flowering in mid-spring before producing a pie-worthy harvest from early to midsummer. Use it as a single productive focal point where its canopy can stand clear of smaller fruiting plants and everyday traffic.

Avoid squeezing the tree between hardscape edges or using low branches to define a route.
