Placement and use
Give this tree a sunny position at the back or side of an edible garden, rather than placing it in the middle of a small bed. Its broad canopy can shade neighboring planting areas as it matures, so keep sun-dependent vegetables, berries, and low flowering plants on the open side of the tree. Chives, garlic, borage, chamomile, and comfrey can be worked into nearby planting zones without crowding the trunk area. Reserve a clear route from path to canopy for picking, pruning, and seasonal cleanup.
