Placement and use
Place sunchoke at the back of a sunny bed, along a fence, or at the outer edge of the vegetable garden, where its height will not shade shorter crops. Keep it out of narrow beds bordered by paths on both sides; the planting needs a reachable edge for cutting stems and lifting tubers. A sheltered location is useful where strong winds could push tall stems over, and support may be needed in exposed ground.[1][2]
