Sweet cherry is a substantial upright fruit tree that brings white blossom to the garden in early to mid-spring, followed by cherries in early to mid-summer. At about 30 feet tall and 25 feet wide, it belongs in a dedicated orchard area or an open edge of a large garden rather than a mixed foundation bed. Include a compatible pollinizer in the planting plan so both trees have room to mature.

Sweet cherry needs active size and branch-structure management in a home orchard. Young trees can make long, upright growth with limited branching, and training is used to establish scaffold limbs; later pruning can keep the canopy within a practical picking height. Leave enough room to work from a ladder where needed, and expect ripe fruit to draw birds in an isolated home planting.[2][3]
