Placement and use
Place sweet potatoes along the front or outer edge of a large vegetable bed, where vines can run into a dedicated strip of open ground without crossing a path. Keep the planting away from narrow walkways, stepping-stone routes, and the bases of upright crops that need regular harvesting. Its low canopy can fill bare bed surface over the season, but leave a clear side for digging at harvest rather than surrounding the planting with permanent edging or tightly packed crops.
