Placement and use
Place true yam at the outside edge of a sunny vegetable plot, beside a dedicated trellis, fence panel, or other sturdy support that can carry a tall twining vine. Keep it out of low planting areas, narrow side yards, and structures shared with smaller crops; the vine can quickly occupy its support and cast shade on nearby plants. Give the base a clear working zone so watering, training, and eventual tuber harvest do not require stepping through neighboring plantings.
