Placement and use
Give watermelon a dedicated lane at the bed’s sunny perimeter, with its vines directed into open ground or across a broad mulch strip. Keep the planting line far enough from paths, doors, and frequent work areas that mature runners and developing fruit will not become obstacles. Corn, beans, radishes, lettuce, spinach, and garlic can be included in the broader plan; keep potatoes in a separate area. Set access routes beside, rather than through, the vine run so fruit can be checked and picked without stepping on stems.
